Before anyone worries that WW3 is going to be set off by the blowing up of chemical weapons before Assad can use them (those worrying about "increased US belligerence towards the al-Assad regime", when the US hasn't fired a single shot, seem mightily unconcerned about actual death of actual Syrians), should note that chemical weapons aren't like nuclear or biological bombs, outside of the immediate time and place, they aren't that dangerous.
I don't think the Israelis are going to endanger their co-operation with Russia* by attacking their ships, unless they were pretty sure the Russians wouldn't retaliate. It is to believe in a lot of ifs to suppose that events will get worse if Syrians are helped, what is fairly certain is that hundreds of thousands will die , and the country will be ripped apart, if the rebels don't get weapons.
