Have the West sit on its hands while the atrocities committed by Assad get worse, until the pressure becomes so great that the United States does try and impose its own solution to the conflict, because the Syrian people have become further disempowered by the months of dithering while they are killed, to the point where they think their only friend in the West is John McCain.
